Summer Fun 2020

I want to go to a show, a restaurant, a museum, a concert, a baseball game – something that does not require that I bring my own power source!!! I think Little League is starting again soon. I’m going to start dropping by Randall Park, just so I can stand far away from people and yell (!) maskless (!) that we want a pitcher, not a belly itcher! and no batta, no batta, no batta, SWING!

So, I’m looking for things to do with the grandkids and the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport has a bunch of concerts going on at the Esplanade on the Nautical Mile on Thursday nights from 7-8:30 PM. (LIACFreeport.org) I am excited about this because Sparkle On Stage will be having a concert there on August 13th. It will be wonderful to see kids performing live again.

Shark Week is on Discovery Channel, and National Geographic has Shark Fest, but all we have to do is go to any south shore beach to get a front row seat. How do we make art out of anxiety? Shark art. Our mantra: Fish are friends, not food as quoted in NEMO.

Speaking of movies, I continue to mourn for theater and film. I will support any reasonable outdoor venue in the vicinity. Nassau County has a drive in set up at Nickerson Beach and other parks. Check the county parks department website for the listings. Junkyard Drive In (junkyarddrivein.com) is supposed to be opening in Middle Island sometime this month, but the plans are still sketchy according to the website. Gateway Drive-in in Bellport has a bunch of classic movies on the schedule, (Forrest Gump, Casablanca, Shrek and Rocky)

Meanwhile, I want to send a shout out to all of the creative and tech people who are currently out of work. I hope you are thinking up the next great story, song, special effect, costume, set design, light show. Make plans, consider the steps, make more plans, collaborate from afar, and pray that we have the opportunity to get back at it soon!
